Leckie married Vera and went on to write close to forty books, including Helmet For My Pillow about his experiences in the war, and also died in 2001. In 2010 HBO develops "The Pacific". The Pacific is based on the true stories of three Marines fighting in the Pacific Theater during World War II: Sgt. When he goes out, he bumps into his neighbor, Vera Keller. Vera Keller Leckie is alive and well today. There was nothing he could do about it in Cape Gloucester, however, and he kept urinating in his sleep.
